I’m running to raise awareness

My name is Hayk Nenedzhyan. I was born in Armenia in July, 1986. Two years later, my family moved to an area known as “Little Armenia” in Hollywood.

My great grandparents were genocide survivors. My father’s side was from Marash, Turkey, and fled to Haleb, Turkey. They moved to Yerevan in 1946.

My mother’s side is from Zaytoun, Turkey. They fled to Beirut, Lebanon and then also came to Yerevan in 1946.

My grandfathers on both sides of the family fought for the Armenian Fedayi, whose main goal was to defend Armenian villagers from persecution and at the same time disrupt the Ottoman Empire’s activities in Armenian populated regions.

I am proud to be Armenian, but I am running in the LA2DC event not only in honor of the Armenian genocide but for all genocides that have happened. If we do not recognize the past, how can we move on to the future?

I am running to raise awareness. Awareness of what happened in the past and what is happening now, so it will never happen again.

Thank you LA2DC.
